My research interests include Latin American politics, historical political economy, criminal violence, and indigenous politics. My work received the 2021 Heinz I. Eulau Award for the best article published in the APSR, and the 2022 Mary Parker Follett award for the best article on politics and history.
My research is multi-method and combines statistical analysis, archival research, GIS, text analysis, machine learning, survey experiments, and lab-in-the-field approaches.
am a co-PI of the Historical Institutions Lab, a faculty associate at the Center for Political Studies, and at the Michigan Institute for Data Science. I collaborate with the Poverty|Violence|Governance Lab (Stanford), the Digging Early Colonial History Project (University of Lancaster), and the Conflict & Peace, Research & Development (University of Michigan).
